WHO IS MAHSA AMINI?
On September 13, 2022, a 22-year-old girl named Mahsa Amini was arrested by the morality police in Tehran, Iran for allegedly wearing her hijab (head covering) improperly. Per eyewitnesses, Mahsa was severely beaten by police while in the police van. Two hours after her arrest she was taken to the hospital where she was in a coma for two days. She succumbed to her injuries on September 16, 2022. Mahsa did not die in vain as she will be remembered forever for being the spark to the protests and civil unrest against the Islamic Republic government of Iran.
